About

Pied Piper Preschool is a non-profit organization licensed by the Provincial Community Care Facilites Licensing Board (CCFLB). It is owned and operated by the parents of the children attending the Preschool. It has its own By-Laws and Constitution and Executive Board. The business of running the preschool is shared equally among its members, which is why everyone takes on a job within the Preschool and partly why all members must attend the monthly general meetings. Together, we all contribute to the smooth running of the Preschool and accordingly, we all reap the benefits!

Our History

Led by a group of parents interested in creating a local community preschool, Pied Piper began as a community initiative in September 1966. In 1991 the preschool moved to its current location in a portable classroom located behind Armstrong Elementary School in Burnaby. In addition to other awards that the preschool has received, in 2009 we were honoured with the award for ‘’Top Preschool of the Year’’ by the BC Council of Parent Participation Preschools.

Our Philosophy

Piper Preschool strives to provide a fun, caring, safe and inclusive environment for all children and their families. Inclusion is the philosophy that all children are valued; all belong. It does not separate children into categories based on their abilities but instead counts all as important components of the whole child.

Our Facility

We are located directly behind Armstrong Elementary School on Armstrong Avenue and Cascade Street, at the Burnaby/New Westminster border. We have no formal catchment area and registration is open to all children and families. The portable classroom has a separate cubby or cloak room, spacious and bright classroom space with kitchen and washroom. The classroom has a quiet reading/listening area, play kitchen and “dress up” area, two open areas for free play as well as sand and water tables. All spaces are child friendly and child safe as well as wheelchair accessible. We also have access to the school playground and field, which provides an opportunity for daily outside play.
