MEET OUR TEACHERS

Our teachers bring over 40 years of experience to Pied Piper Preschool. Their enthusiasm and passion for early childhood learning can be seen in the design and delivery of the play-based curriculum. They believe that activities should be open-ended and lead by the child to encourage the children to explore, manipulate and learn to their fullest potential. You can see their smiles, hear their laughter and feel the nurturing environment of the classroom daily.

Carrie Alexander

Teacher/Administrator

Ms. Carrie first found her passion for children when volunteering for a friend at a childcare center. She became an Early Childhood Educator in 1999 when she graduated from Langara College. She later furthered her education and received her Infant/Toddler certificate. Over the years, she has worked for several organizations and became a team lead, running both an infant/toddler and 3-5 program before joining Pied Piper Preschool in September 2017.

Ms. Carrie has a real passion for play-based learning. She believes that all children need to be given the opportunity to play and explore when they are young to enhance their learning and development. Over her many years of experience, she has learned the importance and skills to create programming around the children’s interests using observations and asking the right questions. She feels that children will become more confident and will grow as strong individuals in their learning.

When Ms. Carrie is not in the classroom, she is a wife and a mom to a lovely
daughter. You will also find her playing at your local hockey rink in the winter and at the ball field in the summer.

Amanda Anselmo

Teacher

Ms. Amanda became an Early Childhood Educator in 2007 and started to work in childcare and preschools. In this time, she discovered preschool was her calling and her love for children. Her oldest daughter attended Pied Piper in 2017 when it was a Parent Involved Preschool. As a parent she joined the board and fell in love with the preschool and this wonderful community. When a teaching opportunity opened she joined the team in September 2019. Ms. Amanda believes children learn the best through play and art should be about the process and not the end product. She feels that some of the most important skills to have when working with children are patience, flexibility and love. Ms. Amanda is a wife and mom to two wonderful girls. In her spare time she loves to read and is part of a book club that meets monthly. She also loves to travel and experience different cultures.

Barb Wilkins

Teacher

Ms. Barb completed her Early Childhood Education training at Douglas College in 2001. She has worked across a variety of different environments including daycares, Strongstart and Family Place programs. She also furthered her training to become a Behaviour Interventionist and has significant experience working with children who have extra support needs. She joined the Pied Piper team in October 2019. Ms. Barb feels passionate that children will learn their best through play and exploration, particularly when teachers follow their interests. She also feels that with play brings laughter and a sense of humour which in turn helps children build resilience, self-esteem, and critical thinking skills. Outside of the preschool, Ms. Barb loves bike riding, swimming and going on local road trips with her husband and her son. They also live with a cat and her husband’s childhood turtle.
